Our Upcoming Highlights of NYC Open Data Week 2025

NYC Open Data Week, the annual citywide festival celebrating the transformative power of public data, is around the corner. Organized by the NYC Open Data Team at the NYC Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI), BetaNYC, and Data Through Design, the event brings together civic technologists, researchers, policymakers, and community leaders to explore and innovate with municipal open data.

From March 22-30, 2025, Open Data Week features a packed lineup of events showcasing how NYC Open Data can shape decision-making, fuel community-driven storytelling, and drive policy innovation. Highlights include the Data Through Design art exhibition, neighborhood data walks, and in-depth workshops on using data for advocacy and funding.

For this year’s Open Data Week, the Culture & Arts Policy Institute presents DATA, POWER, and JUSTICE: The State of Open Data for Culture and Arts in NYC—a critical conversation on how open data influences funding, visibility, and equity in the cultural sector. This event will bring artists, policymakers, and advocates together to examine how data can empower communities rather than reinforce institutional barriers. Featuring a presentation of a recent Culture & Arts Policy Institute study, the discussion will unpack the challenges and opportunities of using open data to strengthen the sector, enhance data literacy, and promote best practices citywide.
